Email is the fastest way to reach me. I read everything that comes in, though replies can take a day or two.
Before you write
Three questions come up often enough that the answer is worth reading first — it may save you the wait.
- The result looks different from what you expected. These tools apply a fixed transformation, so the same input always produces the same output. If a photo came out softer or smaller, that is usually the quality setting rather than a fault — lossy compression discards detail on purpose to hit a target file size. Try a higher quality value, then compare the file size before and after to see what the setting actually costs you.
- Nothing happens when you pick a file. A browser tab is only allowed a limited amount of memory. Very large images can push a tab past that limit, and the tab may freeze or reload itself instead of showing an error. Try a single file at a time, or a smaller source image, before assuming the tool is broken.
- The download is not where you expected. Files are saved by your browser to its normal download folder. Nothing is retained here, so there is no copy on this end to fetch for you later.
Reporting a bug
If none of the above covers it, these details are what let me reproduce the problem:
- Which tool, and the exact page address if you can copy it.
- Your browser and version. Output formats depend on what the browser can encode, so an older browser can produce a different result from a current one.
- The file type and rough size. "A 4 MB HEIC from an iPhone" tells me more than "a photo".
- What happened, and what you expected instead. A screenshot of the error helps more than a description of it.
Requesting a tool
Describe the task you keep doing by hand: what you start with, which steps you repeat every time, and what you need at the end. A request that comes up more than once gets built first. I would rather say no than ship something that half works.
What I cannot help with
I cannot recover files you processed with a browser-based tool. Those tools run on your own device, so the original and the output exist only on your machine — there is nothing on my side to look up, restore, or send back.
I also cannot tell you whether a particular photo will pass a particular marketplace's review. The marketplace requirements page collects what the published rules say, but the decision is always the platform's, not mine.
Privacy and data
Most tools here process your file entirely in the browser: it is never uploaded, so there is nothing for me to see or keep. A few tools rely on a third-party service, and where that is the case the tool's own page says so before you use it. The privacy policy covers cookies and advertising in more detail.
Business and advertising
Put "business" in the subject line so the message does not get buried among bug reports. I answer these less quickly, since this is a one-person site.
